Some of my happiest memories are of weekends spent on a farm in Kenya.

While my husband headed out to work at dawn, I would linger over a quiet cup of tea and listen for the familiar whirr of wings outside the bathroom window. Before long, our regular visitor would arrive—a tiny bronze sunbird with a very particular morning routine.

She had discovered the mirrors.

First the bathroom mirror, then the one in the hallway, and finally the large mosaic mirror on the veranda. With a flurry of whistles and chirps, she would admire her reflection before darting off again. If she spotted me watching, she would disappear immediately. Mirror time, it seemed, was a private affair.

That delightful little bird became the inspiration for Kirimiri.

Every detail has been drawn by hand, from the glossy bronze sunbird and busy village weavers to the passion flowers and palms that filled the garden around us. Together they capture not just the beauty of Kenya's landscape, but the feeling of being there—the warmth, colour and gentle rhythm of life surrounded by nature.
