Some objects carry more than memories.

When my grandmother died, she left me a Victorian rocking horse that had been part of my childhood for as long as I could remember. I spent countless happy hours riding it at her house, dreaming up adventures and believing, as children do, that anything was possible.

Years later, while I was living abroad, the horse was placed into storage. Unfortunately, its head was damaged and had to be sent away for restoration. What happened next felt like the beginning of a storybook.

While repairing the horse, the restorers discovered something hidden inside its belly.

Using a camera scope, they uncovered what they believed to be a child's christening gown and a dagger, carefully concealed within the horse many decades before. Who placed them there, and why, remains a mystery. We never removed them. To this day, the horse still guards its secret.

That discovery made me love it even more.

Carousel Safari was inspired by that remarkable horse and the sense of wonder it represented. It is a celebration of childhood imagination, family stories, and the objects that quietly carry pieces of the past through generations.

Each carousel animal has been drawn by hand, from elegant horses and a playful zebra to the mythical hippocampus, a magical creature that is half horse and half sea creature. Together they circle through the design like characters from a forgotten fairground, inviting you into a world where glamour, nostalgia and fantasy meet.
